Competency 5
Competency Five: Applying positive behavioral supports and interventions to address student and classroom management needs (PBIS).
Artifact: PBIS Prezi Presentation
Reflection: The artifact I chose to demonstrate my knowledge of Competency 5 is a Prezi Presentation which I created for class. It is an informative and summative presentation designed to give an overview of the key points PBIS. I think one of the strengths of this presentation is in the nature of the Prezi presentation itself--I break down PBIS into its key components and sub components, and design the Prezi into easy to follow bullet points that visually represent the breakdown of PBIS. I spent a great deal of time working on this presentation, but it is definitely one of the pieces of work from the semester I am most proud of. Although time consuming to create, this Prezi presentation definitely solidified my knowledge of the topic, which was very limited before this module began. Creating it really tested my knowledge as I had to synthesize all the key points of PBIS, summarize them into my own words, then reproduce them in an easy to follow format.
The biggest takeaway for me from this artifact was the reflection piece of the presentation, when I ask myself "What does PBIS mean to me as a Spanish teacher?" This was so meaningful to me because as a future teacher, classroom management has always been a concern of mine. The idea of creating the perfect balance between fun, inviting, comfortable, and strict in the classroom is one that I admire in teacher's who seem to instinctually know exactly what kind of classroom they wish to have, and how to go about doing so. Knowing that PBIS is school wide, and that as a high school teacher, there are strategies I can implement, was so beneficial for me. I especially loved doing further research and brainstorming about how I could translate and/or transfer these ideas into the Spanish classroom.
